Veterans often need help with claims for disability compensation, pension,

Social Security disability benefits and more. Sometimes they don't drive and

have no way to get to a VA medical facility for the treatment they need.

Perhaps someone you know is preparing to leave the Navy or Marine Corps

and could use a little guidance about the benefits and services that will

become available to him or her as a veteran.

The U.S. Navy Veterans Association provides assistance to veterans through the programs described below. You can help by spreading word of these programs to veterans or a veteran's family:

·       NavyVets’ Veterans Service Officers Program stations professional veterans' benefits experts in 25 home offices across the United States and Puerto Rico. These Veterans Service Officers (VSOs) provide a multitude of free services to veterans and their families. They assist clients with advice for filing claims for VA compensation, pension and death benefits, Social Security disability benefits, and many other programs.

·      NavyVets’ Transition Service Program is vitally important to Navy and Marine Corps men and women preparing to leave service and return to civilian life. This program  informs these service members of the rights and benefits that will become available to them as veterans..

·      NavyVets’ National Employment Service Program  volunteer staff actively work to protect the employment rights veterans have earned and to enhance their employment opportunities. USNVA  is not a licensed employment referral agency, but we can and do direct veterans and employers to the resources they need.

·      USNVA has pioneered specific Outreach Programs to assist women veterans, Native American Veterans, victims of post-traumatic stress disorders, homeless veterans, and other groups with unique problems.

  •  NavyVets’ National Voluntary Service Program is an extensive network of programs through which volunteers provide a variety of services to needy veterans on local and state levels.

·      USNVA’s Voluntary Service Programs resulted in donation of 250,000 volunteer hours last year working with patients in VA hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics. Another 250,000 hours were contributed to veterans in non-VA medical facilities.

.

·      NavyVets’ Disaster Relief is designed to help needy veterans and their families affected by such disasters as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, and other emergencies, and to support the mission of the U.S. Navy in providing these kinds of relief efforts when these types of tragedies strike abroad. We try to be on the spot when disaster strikes, but we need a hand from the community in order to locate all needy vets who need our help.
