The special Thank You notes above, and the other Thank You notes found elsewhere on this page,
the Homepage, the Veterans Outreach Programs page, and throughout this site, are reflective of over $7 million in dollar and resource expenditures of the Association on its
program service activities just over the past few years. Most recipients of charitable assistance do not write Thank You notes,
it should be noted, and sometimes the Association does ask for them.
Approximately 75% of all Association dollar and resource income comes from membership donations
and dues, and no member has ever taken an itemized tax deduction for either donations or dues.
A Special Thank You from a USAF unit from New Mexico in Iraq, for $9,000 worth of care kits the New Mexico Chapter sent them in 2010. After sending the unit the kits, the New Mexico Chapter was subsequently forced to dissolve voluntarily because of physical threats against its members and their families, and mounting financial difficulties (including membership fears about continuing their association), all caused by lies and misrepresentations told about the Chapter by a reporter from the St. Petersburg Times, Jeff Testerman (with mispellings included):
"Thank-you for the backpacks you sent to us here in Iraq. Everything in it will be put to good use. i would
also like to thank-you for your service.

"Every boy that joins the Scouts is a boy on the right track."
- Robert M. Gates
Secretary of Defense Designate, 2006
And a special Thank You from
Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz
for a $5,000 grant the
U.S. Navy Veterans Association New York Chapter made to the Camp Brooklyn program in
2006:
"Thank you so much for your generous contribution to Camp Brooklyn."
- Marty Markowitz
President, Borough of Brooklyn, New York
Camp Brooklyn is a charity which takes needy kids from the inner city and sends them to summer camps on
the Hudson or on the lakes and rivers of Greater New York, where they learn an appreciation of water sports, water activities,
and an appreciation for the role of New York City in this nation's maritime and naval histories.
