Remember the Veteran

       The poster to the right
was done
by Howard Chandler Christy.
The model is Mrs. Nancy Palmer Christy, Howard's wife.
Howard Chandler Christy died in 1952. He and Nancy were married for 30 years.
Howard did his last poster in 1921.
He was the best patriotic American poster artist of the World War I era.
Many important models, the aspiring "Marilyn Monroes" of the day, posed for him.
He loved them all, equally.

Remember America

RATE ABBREVIATIONS BY GRADE OF NAVY ENLISTED PERSONNEL:

The use of the word rank for naval enlisted personnel is incorrect. The correct term is rate. The rating badge - a combination of the rate (pay grade) and the rating (occupational specialty) is worn on the left upper sleeve of all uniforms in grades E-4 through E-6. E-1 through E-3 have color coded group rate marks based upon their occupational field. Group rate marks for E-1 (optional) through E-3 are worn on dress uniforms only. Chief Petty Officers (E-7 through E-9) wear collar devices on their white and khaki uniforms, and rate badges on their Service Dress Blues.

CHAIN OF COMMAND

ADMIRAL

Leaps tall buildings with a single bound, Is more powerful than a locomotive, Is faster than a speeding bullet, Walks on water,

Gives policy to God.

CAPTAIN

Leaps short buildings with a single bound, Is more powerful than a small train, Is just as fast as a speeding bullet, Walks on water if sea is calm, Talks with God.

COMMANDER

Leaps short buildings with a running start, Is almost as powerful as a large train, Is slower than a speeding bullet, Walks on water in indoor swimming pools, Talks with God if special form is provided.

LIEUTENANT COMMANDER

Barely clears little huts,

Loses tugs-of-war with elephants , Can fire a speeding bullet, Swims well,

Is occasionally addressed by God.

LIEUTENANT, S.G.

Makes high marks when trying to leap high buildings,

Is run over by small trains,

Can sometimes handle a gun without without inflicting self-injury,

Dog paddles, Talks to Animals.

LIEUTENANT, J.G.

Runs into buildings,

May know what a helicopter is, Is not issued with ammunition, Can stay afloat if instructed in life jackets, Talks to Walls.

MIDSHIPMAN

Falls over doorstep when trying to enter building, Says "Look at the Choo Choo", Plays in puddles,

Mumbles to himself.

CHIEF PETTY OFFICER

Lifts buildings and walks under them, Kicks locomotives off the track, Catches speeding bullets in his teeth, Freezes water with a single glance, HE IS GOD.
