"Heroes" is brought to you by the United States Navy Veterans Association. Some of the items you see our US Armed Forces members in Iraq using in "Heroes" were brought to them by the US Navy Veterans Association's Operation Enduring Freedom Fund. All US Forces are scheduled to leave Iraq by 2011, with the job only half done.

This Page contains both the Site Index and the descriptive Guide to the Site.

The Site Index is first and the Guide to the Site follows second:

SITE INDEX

The purpose of the Site Index is to list items that are contained on a Page listed on the Navigation Bar (the "Table of Site Contents"), or to link to a Page which is not listed on the Navigation Bar, which appears at the top of every Page. The Site Index does not merely re-list the Navigation Bar titles of Pages. By clicking on the Site Index link, you will go to the appropriate Page, but you will still have to find the item you are looking for on that Page by scrolling, or, instead, by simply clicking on "Edit" on your Toolbar, then "Find On This Page," and then typing in the keywords or phrases you are looking for, which will then appear highlighted as you scroll.

At the bottom of every Page, also, is a mini-search engine into which you can type any word or phrase and pull up the Page or Pages on which those words appear, along with where they appear on that Page.

Likewise, you can also install the easy-to-install Microsoft  Internet Windows 7 toolbar containing a classic search engine menu for free (Instructions on how to use the Microsoft classic search engine menu are contained at the bottom of each of our Pages), and then, for any Page, find on that Page (highlighted) any word or phrase you type in. Since Bill Gates provides this latter service for free to everyone in the whole wide world, it is financially irresponsible, in our opinion, for charities to be spending a substantial amount of their donors' money for professional website designers to re-design their websites to provide "easier" navigation, but if your opinion is different, you have every right, and it is your patriotic duty, to say so, even though we will respectfully disagree with you. Let us make no mistake about it, ease of navigation is important, especially if you're in the Navy.

You probably have the Microsoft Internet Windows 7 Toolbar already. Click on Tools, then Classic Menu, then the word or phrase you are looking for in the upper right hand corner of the Toolbar, then "Find on This Page."

This Page also contains both a descriptive Guide to the Pages of the Site and, at the bottom of this Page, featured Pages and articles the Editors recommend for special viewing.

GUIDE TO THE SITE

The Site is broken down into a Homepage and  six parts:

A general introduction to the Association, its officers and directors, and some of its featured purposes and policies. The Homepage is NOT intended as a site index page, or a site description page. It is a melange page, as we Americans are a melange people: one from many. We bring together on the Homepage many introductory ideas about the Association, all presented in one place as a dramatic and up front view into who we are and what we do. If you don't like that, or find that confusing, tough. Our membership, in one form or another, has voted to approve our site design. If you don't like that design, or any portion of that design, we have the following advice, seriously: become a dues paying member of the Association; run for the Executive Board; get elected; and then you can tell the Association how to construct its website to your satisfaction. Until then, we'll go with what our members are saying, and with what a majority of the commenting public is saying about our website design.

Part I: The United States Navy Veterans Association, the organization and its programs -

This Part contains 11 Pages:

In addition to stating the purposes and major activities of the Association is an easy to understand format, the Mission Statement Page also contains a lengthy article by the Association's Chairman stating his personal opinion as to distinctions between the Association and some other major recognized and mainstream veterans' organizations.

THE BOTTOM OF THE MISSION STATEMENT PAGE EXPLAINS THAT THE ASSOCIATION DOES NOT ENGAGE IN POLITICAL ACTIVITIES, AND WHY THIS IS SO. THIS SECTION ON ELECTIONEERING ACTIVITIES IS "MUST READING" FOR ANYONE FOOLISH ENOUGH TO BELIEVE THAT THE ASSOCIATION ENGAGES IN WHAT THE IRS CURRENTLY CALLS PROSCRIBED "POLITICAL ACTIVITIES,", EVEN THOUGH THE POLITICAL ACTIVITY PROHIBITIONS OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE ARE GENERALLY HELD TO BE APPLICABLE TO 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATIONS, AND NOT TO 501(C)(19) ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS THE ASSOCIATION.

The Homeport and Contributions Pages also contain further explications of the Association's positions on the subject of political activities.

While the Homeport Page contains a history of the Association, it also contains begining entries for the Association's War on Terror, National Security Affairs and Veterans Issues Newstands, as well as some technical information about the Site itself.

The Homeport Page also contains further explications of the Association's positions on the subject of political activities.

This Page contains major detailed descriptions of what many refer to as "true" veterans' service assistance programs and activities of the Association.

The Contributions Pages also contains further explications of the Association's positions on the subject of political activities.

This is the Page to start out with if you're looking for "verifications" that the Association does what it says it does. Don't forget to follow the links to the other Pages cited on the Compliments Page.

     Certain of the Association's
State Chapters have contributed access links for their state's veterans' benefits under their headings on this Page.

This Page is for those members of the public who seek to ascertain the "legitimacy" of the Association or a particular fundraising campaign the Association may be doing in their state at any particular point in time, and who are having diificulty finding that information on one of a number of other pages on which the same information can be found, e.g., the Annual Report Page, the Contributions Page, the State Chapters Page, and the Awards and Compliments Page. This Page lists with links all the federal agencies, state agencies and local agencies which are charged by law with either regulating, registering, maintaining information on, or which can recommend either the Association or so-called "legitimate" charities operating in their state or jurisdiction. If checking "legitimacy" is your wont, this Page directs you to the governmental agency which is "the horse's mouth" in your jurisdiction. This Page is designed to obviate the condition which afflicts many Americans, when they want to "check out" a charity, of instead contacting any "Tom, Dick, or Harry" in their neighborhood, such as their postal carrier, their local Navy recruiter, or their brother the police officer. However, if the latter is your desire, this is a free country, and you are free to do anything legal you please, as is the Association, including contacting individuals about a matter concerning your education who are not charged by law with knowing anything whatsoever about that matter. The Association is a national charity with approximately 1,000 members on average per state, and does not maintain local contact, nor is it required to maintain local contact, nor can it maintain local contact, with every police officer, postal carrier or Navy recruiter in the United States.

Part II: The United States Navy -

This Part contains six Pages:

Part III: Tributes to American Patriotism and the Cause of America -

The support of patriotism and the cause of the United States in the world are explicit purposes of the United States Navy Veterans Association.

This Part contains five Pages:

Part IV: U.S. Navy Veterans Association Newstands -

This Part contains five Pages:

The Veterans Issues Newstand also contains, after its chronological entries on the news, an important reference guide on obtaining your G.I. Bill benefits, as well as some historical tributes to the American veteran.

Part V: Links -

This Part contains one Page:

While this Page contains many links of interest, the Obtaining your Benefits Section on the Page contains  access links to all the information you will ever need to know about your federal veterans' benefits, as well as online applications for those benefits (as well as lost records and awards for yourself or your relatives.) It also contains Locator Services for lost friends and shipmates.

FEATURE ATTRACTIONS

These are featured pieces the Association's Combined Editorial Staffs recommend:

Start at our Homeport for an Overview of the role of the United States Navy Veterans Association in the history of the United States Navy,  and then go to our Mission Statement for an Introduction to the Association's  Goals and Activities.

On our Homeport Page, also check out the very first entries on our War on Terror, National Security Affairs, and Veterans' Issues Newstands. In the middle of the first entries on the War on Terror Newstand you will find a complete list of the original top leadership of Al Quaida, with an up to date scorecard as to who's been been captured, killed or are still at large.

Don't miss our NewsBlog where you can leave your own breaking news stories.

Don't miss our In the News page for a brief overview of the many real journalism articles which have been written about the Association, its predecessor organizations and their members, since 1927. This page focuses on current events of note.

For locating lost shipmates or obtaining lost records or awards, check out the appropriate links on our Links of Interest Page.
Other links are also contained on this Page, including links to almost every conceivable federal agency you would want information from.
One link on this Page we'd like to feature, for Navy moms concerned about their physical safety, or their children's physical safety, while travelling, is our new (as of 2005)Travel Advisories Page.
We also have other relevant links at the bottom of many other Pages.

News about authorization or appropriation bills in Congress of interest to active-duty personnel and veterans are generally found on either our Veterans' Issues Newstand or on our Legislation Page.

Access and read the entirety of the 9/11 Commission Report, free, and view our Newstand's analysis of the Report and its Recommendations, in our War on Terror Newstand's updated 8/5/2004 story.

Don't forget to check out our showcase news analysis piece 'Sandstorm,' FOR THE CURRENT ANALYSIS OF WHEN CRUDE OIL IN THE WORLD WILL RUN OUT (Never mind Social Security), which our National Security Affairs Newstand ran prior to anybody in the mainstream featuring this story, as the very first entry to the Newstand, at the bottom of the Homeport Page.

And be sure not to miss our  "Saving Private Lynch" feature, and the Story of Lori Piestewa, on the 'Let Every Nation Know... ' Page, or our National Security Affairs Newstand's 2-10-03  predictions on, as well as the history and analysis of, the conventional war in Iraq.
